April 15, 2012Hey guys it`s been a log time since i`ve been on here. I have a question about u-joints. My truck has been making a clunking noise under acceleration from a dead stop or close to a dead stop and has only bee getting worse. When i climb underneath and grab the drive shaft should the truck be in park or neutral for this test? also should there be anyplay at all? I can grab the shaft in bothP/N and it twists quite a bit.

April 18, 2012As long as your differential yokes are twisting with the driveshaft, thats fine. you are looking for up and down play or any other movement between the shaft and the yoke, they should all ways move with each other. Another way is to simply take the driveshaft out and move the joints by hand, if its hard to turn or you have some bearings missing you will deffinently find whats wrong.
