November 7, 2011My cousin is an ASE mechanic with his own shop, so Im pretty fortunate to be able to have full access to all of his wonderful toys. I kinda figured that Id be trimming that bumper and plastic piece. If I need to Ill just use my highly calibrated boot to remove that plastic and an angle grinder on the bumper. Im not too concerned about it since I have the intention of building my own bumper with a brush guard. After that ordeal I went through changing the box the idea of a body lift is pretty much out the window, otherwise that probably wouldve been my first choice instead of jacking around with the suspension.

November 23, 2011My cheesey *** lift and tires got here yesterday and got everything installed today. Those keys are a total blast to install. Being in the rust belt kinda welded the keys to the torsion bars with rust. We ended up unbolting the cross member and melting the keys out with a torch. My shocks are at max drop, but theyre junk anyway so Ill get a new set of 4 for it. I dont think that thing would ride any rougher even if I wouldve welded the axles right to the frame. Driving that thing now is a 2 handed ordeal. Im glad that Ill hardly ever drive it. I definitely dont recommend putting keys in your truck like I did. If that truck wasnt so rusted I wouldve put a body lift under it instead. Putting the lift in, mounting & balancing the tires and replacing a brake hose took about 3.5 hours. Ill post a pic of this pile when the site gets running right.
November 24, 2011Thank you Mr.Wank! I wish your post would be at The Top of Every Google Search about ReIndexed Torsion Bar Keys. Along with them not doing much of anything besides making it a handfull to drive and not doing anything, they are a PITA to install. Take it off sell it to another sorry soul on Craigslist and buy a body lift that actually nets you more tire clearance.
Half ton GM trucks from 88-98 absolutely do no benefit from re-indexed keys. 99-06 years you can get more lift, by installing Ford keys of another aftermarket brand, but they totally screw over the ride quality and turn a nice truck into a horrible one quickly.
