June 16, 2011Big block and fuel mileage do not belong in the same sentence...
The best advise is to keep the truck serviced, tires inflated, and remove as much weight as possible. If money allows, you may be able to get a tune for the engine to maximize the fuel curve.
June 16, 2011use a good injector cleaner like seafoam every change and keep the truck tuned...filters and plugs and wires that will keep you at optimum MPG
June 16, 2011custom tune....
June 17, 2011downgrade the 8.1 to a 6.0 or 5.3!
June 17, 2011Get a scooter to drive when your not towing anything. LOL sry man dont think theres much you can do for that. I had a 8.1 out of an airboat in the back of my truck the other day. Got to relize just how heavy that thing was. Its a big hungry monster of a motor.
June 17, 2011But man you could try that viper thing that the one guy was talking about the other day. I`ll see if I can find the post. I guess the company is out of georgia but I looked at there website and they clam just about every thing they put it in get about 10% better MPG. SOrt of expesive but they even make them for big rigs so maybe it would help your 8.1. And I know abunch of other guys here want to see what it will do.
June 17, 2011RedRebel98 brought this up in a post a couple days ago I think. Google "Viper fuel enhancer". I`d send you a link but I`mnot that good with computers. Sry.
June 17, 2011if it works i would be glad to come off it for 10%.
June 17, 2011Even a tune can`t fix that engine. It uses the old style 5.7 intake ports on the heads, and the injectors are only 31 lbs. It sprays on a 100% duty cycle just to keep the engine running most of the time. It`s a great engine to have but you`re not going to ever see gas mileage out of it. A modified 6.0 will outperform it with better gas mileage to boot.
