January 24, 2005Which tune do you think I should get, Hot or Dual? I like being able to use cheaper gas but some say that the hot tune gets beter MPG and taht would make it worth while. Also If I get a hot what happens when I use 87 gas? Does it just not run as good? Do you guys know of hand the price for hot and or dual tune?

January 24, 2005I have a 93 Hot tune and would recommend it highly.
Some see gas mileage gains and some don't even with a Hot tune. I ran 87 with my hot tune and didn't notice any difference in performance or engine behavior. I just did it to see what would happen.
January 24, 2005Both!
The new dual hot tune sounds like the way to go now... 91/93 hot tune!
January 24, 2005can't even find 93 here in Tucson, so I think a hot tune would be a waste. How does the computer know the difference between the octanes when you get a dual? Does Westers do an 89 tune?
January 24, 2005They'll do any tune you like. I'm on the left coast as well and went with a 91 hot tune. No regrets whatsoever. Performance improvements across the RPM range and a 1mpg increase in economy.
It's important that you consider your needs. Do you tow? Is flexibility at the pump important? Do you want to make other mods first so they can tune for them? Yada yada... I recommend an email to Lyndon Wester. He's a busy fellow but he will respond, addressing all your questions.
January 24, 2005The dual 91/93 une or the 93 hot tune.Lyndon can tune for 89 octane yes,but I would get the 91/93 or 93 hot tune if you are lookin for mainly performance!
January 24, 2005Wester's dual octane tunes will automatically retune the engine every time you fill the gas tank. If you have no 93 available where you are, the 89/93 dual octane tune sounds best for you. You can run 89 anytime and get great performance. If you run across 91 octane, put it in and the PCM will retune itself for it and run even better. If you find some 93, put that in and again, the PCM will retune itself to take full advantage of the octane and run still better. Change back and forth as often as you like, the PCM doesn't care how often it retunes!
Are Wester's tunes great or what!!!!
Now the brand new 91/93 hot tunes...I just upgraded my 93 hot tune to an even hotter 91/93 hot tune...all I can say is WOOOOOHOOOOO, this tune kicks A_s!!!!

January 24, 2005ya, I finally made up my wish list last night and got all the prices for everything and put together an install order. Exhaust (flowmaster 40 and edelbrock ceramic coated headers) K&N FIPK, E-fans, Shift Kit, plug wires, and the the PCM tune (either Wester or Nelson, haven't decided yet) I haven't really figured out yet what tune I am looking for, I will probably just wait until the time comes and talk with Lyndon or the guys at Nelson and see what they say.
January 24, 2005wait, so the 89/93 will take advantage of whatever you throw at it, 89, 91, 93, 92.324???? That sounds pretty sweet, and like a winner.
January 24, 2005I don't tow enough to have that matter. If I do tow it is only for maybe 50-70 miles round trip.
I don't plan on doing much else performance wise. So I think I am ready for the tune as soon as i decide and come up with the cash.
How much does this cost? Ballpark, I know it depends on which you get.
January 24, 2005For your truck it is $429 for any tune you choose.
