March 22, 2011Always owned a Chevy and probably always will. It goes back to when I was very young and my friends brother and father were Ford men and my father owned a Chevy. We always argued over which was better and which looked better. It just carried over and when I was old enough to drive, naturally I bought a Chevy car. Later I got into trucks.
March 22, 2011For me, i grew up around chevy`s, and as i got older i realized everyone i know who owned a ford, kept needing help working on them. My dad bought a 94 Chevrolet Silverado k2500 extended cab long box new. So i grew up around that truck. We owned that truck until `07 when my dad bought his avalanche and traded that truck in. the only problems we had with that truck in its entire life time with us (besides oil changes, brakes, ect) was that it sat for an extended time due to my dad being injured and unable to drive a manual, and me not being old enough to drive, so when i turned 16 we brought it back out, fired right up, but the 4 wheel drive wouldn`t engage. we checked all the vacuum lines, all the cables, and got no where. turns out some dust got into the under hood fuse box, and popped one of the fuses. we replaced it and it worked perfectly again. the other problem we had, which really falls under wear and tear, was the clutch started going out. at 185k miles, on the original clutch. needless to say, when i was driving this truck i was a teenager, and treated the truck as such. I put the truck through hell and back, and it never gave me any issues. at one point i found a rock, that was hiding in a bush on my buddies property while we were off roading. the rock popped up and rolled through my undercarriage, pushing all the cross supports up, shoving the tranny into the floor, pushing one of the cross supports up against the drive line, and another one a good 6 inches up in the center, and tweaking the frame in the process. but driving the truck, you would never be able to tell. (i didn`t even know this all had happened until the clutch went out, and we saw the under side of the truck) the truck drove straight, no alignment issues, no random sounds coming out from anything, and no real issues with the truck at all. Now, beyond what stupid stuff I did to the truck, but dad also put it through its paces. My dad used the truck as a work truck, and it showed. he had rolled the truck in 96, (partially, just really flipped onto side into a ditch) with no real damage happening from it (winter fluff gave a nice cushion for the truck) and in the bed, there was a wave between EVERY bed cross support. i have seen some trucks with a few waves, but our truck was the only one i have ever seen where there was a wave between every support. Needless to say as my first car/truck experience, i knew i would only buy chevy trucks. I have yet to run into a ford guy, or a dodge guy, that can match my experience. And beyond that i`ve never been impressed with the look and feel of the other trucks.
Since my dad sold his truck, and got the avalanche, i have owned a 94 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 454 TBI and NV4500, a 93 GMC Sierra work truck with the 6.5 turbo and NV3500, and a 99 GMC Sierra crew cab 3500 454 Vortec and auto. all have been 4x4, and all have been great trucks. I was planning on getting a duramax, which i still will but more than likely not for another year or two. But i will more than likely pick up another 88-98 diesel here in the coming months. Besides trucks, i have owned a 74 k5, and currently own a 81 k5. I have also owned my share of F bodies.... 2 84 camaros, an 82 camaro, and an 86 camaro, and currently own an 87 Firebird Trans Am GTA, that i`m planning on getting going good this summer. and i am only 21, looking back at it i can see why some of my friends say i go through vehicles, but all have been GM, and all have been great vehicles. 3 of the camaros were parts cars for my 84 z28 that i sold to a friend to fund my motorcycle, but i always get a chuckle over how many vehicles i have bought since i turned 18....
March 22, 2011I already had a Vmax with exactly everything I wanted and traded for the same truck with the 6.2L 3.73 combination.
Couldn`t help myself.
March 22, 2011I was always in love with my friends lifted 2500 truck so when I saved money and turned 18 I was driving around and saw my truck behind me with a fro sale sign in it. The price was very good for the truck 15,000 for a truck with 33,000 miles on it and only 4 years old. I bought it and started making it my own until it looks present day like this....I plan on always keeping this truck and maybe giving it to my kids one day.
March 22, 2011I always grew up around a Dodge and that`s what I had planned on getting. But my grandpa had surprised me with a 2004 Silverado. Needless to say, I`ve been hooked. After I wrecked that one in 09, I bought the one that I drive today. I`ve never had any problems out of a Chevy, other that what I`ve done to them will muddin, but that`s a given. Chevy for life!
March 22, 2011well i had three choices for my truck a 03 s10 that is pretty beat up and to small for me a 99 f1510 that i had to put 2 grand into it just to get it to pass inspection or my 97 that was in perfect condition and the 97 just has something about it that catches your eye and i feel in love and i talked my grandfather into buying it as a work truck then i slowly took it over until i got my liscenes sicne i paid for all the gas and maitanice my grandfather said you have worked for it but you need to keep working and its now my baby
March 22, 2011I first saw my truck a few weeks before i bought it back in 03. It was sitting there in a used truck lot at the big chevy dealership near me. I looked at and was man thats awesome a Black 98 ext cab. Only thing i didnt like was the Gold. I owned a Taurus that was Gold and i hated it at the time. A few weeks later i went to go get an oil change and the line was busy so i called my mom to see what she was doing for lunch. She said she was busy at work and said go talk to Dave about a truck because your sister is gonna drive soon and need your car. So i went down talked to Dave at Bergey`s. Test drove a 0bs 00 3/4ton with 454. It was blue. Didnt like it all that much, asked him if he had one in black and thats how i got my 98. Test drove it that night, said i want this truck! Got it on 3/15/03 and 8 years later still got it. Then of course i added more chevy trucks later!
March 23, 2011Towing Capacity + 6.0L. Needed something with a little more kick than a 5.7L (Tahoe). Here`s a pic of what I tow. It`s 8500#`s fully loaded.
Actually passed my truck up while looking at the dealership. I saw a 3" exhaust and figured it was a diesel. When I found out it wasn`t I knew it was the one I wanted.
That was in Nov 2007. I have 157K miles on her now, and she`s paid off!
March 23, 2011Ive grown up around trucks so Ive always wanted one. Wanted a 3/4 ton but found my 1500 at a dealership with one hell of a price tag, couldnt help myself and still got it today. Ill probably always have it but Ive been lookin at alot of 3/4 tons lately...maybe in a year or two Ill be upgrading
March 23, 2011got this one to haul heavy loads and its been a great truck.
March 23, 2011This
lead to this
I bought the S10 because I wanted a truck and it was cheap. 600 bucks for a reg cab long bed with a 2.8 V6... couldn`t pass that up for a cheap 4x4... Being in college I was the only one with a truck so frequently got asked to help move things around. All was fine and well until I had to tow that car listed above. The mountains of PA were more than the V6 could handle and I threw a rod killing the v6. So I went and picked up a cheap Dodge Dynasty. It wasn`t a bad car, but I am a truck guy.
So after graduating, I was still towing and moving things around. I saw this truck sitting at a dealer and was on a special. I took it out for a spin and fell in love with it. It is a big 3/4 ton, with a V8 and a hitch. It was the dealership`s tow truck to retrieve cars from auction so most of the miles were highway towing and the engine and tranny were immaculate. The lot had bought a newer diesel for towing and were selling this off.
I too plan on keeping her for a long time yet. She has some body panels that need attention this year, then she should be good for another 15 years
Great stories so far all!!! Keep them coming!!!
